Houzz Pro API Guide for Remodelers and Designers

One-line verdict: Houzz claims API access on its top plans but publishes no documentation for it — what you can actually use today is Houzz’s own syncs and a one-way Zapier door. Openness: 2 / 5 — rated 2 because the vendor documents built-in syncs and a write-only bridge, while the claimed API has no developer portal, no endpoints, and no auth model anywhere in Houzz’s own materials.

The connection that works

First, the claim — labeled for what it is. Houzz’s own comparison page says “Open API Access — Yes: API integrations available on the Teams and Enterprise plans.” That is a marketing comparison claim. We looked for the substance behind it — a developer portal, an API reference, an endpoint list, an auth flow, a webhook catalog, rate limits — and found none of it in any Houzz source. Under this directory’s standard, a comparison-page claim is not an API. The Teams/Enterprise API stays UNVERIFIED until Houzz publishes documentation a builder can build against.

What the vendor actually documents is syncs, not connections you control. Houzz Pro’s integrations page lists its own built-ins: QuickBooks Online sync (invoices, payments, and financial data flow from Houzz Pro into QuickBooks automatically — a one-way, vendor-run sync, not an API), Gmail lead capture and a CRM-for-Gmail extension, calendar sync, Google Drive, and Gusto for payroll. Those work, but on Houzz’s terms and Houzz’s schedule.

Bridge apps: there is a Zapier connection, listed by Houzz as available on all plans — but it is a door that only opens inward. The verified actions are Create Lead and Create Project. In the listings we checked, Houzz Pro appears only as the app that receives — no Houzz Pro triggers were found, meaning nothing in Houzz Pro can start an automation in your other tools through Zapier. No native Make app was found.

Note: older material online describes a Houzz marketplace API for product sellers (orders and inventory). That is not a Houzz Pro API, no vendor developer documentation for it was found either, and it plays no part in this rating.

Can automate

Can’t automate

Hidden gate: Houzz says API access exists on the Teams and Enterprise plans, but publishes no way for an outside builder to actually get in — so the plan upgrade buys a claim, not a connection. Ask Houzz for the developer documentation link before you pay for the tier.

Build fit — what this platform supports well

What this means for your shop

If you run Houzz Pro for the marketplace leads and the all-in-one workflow, keep it — just know its walls. Your automations will live outside it: capture the lead before it reaches Houzz, keep the money follow-up in QuickBooks, and treat the Teams/Enterprise “API access” line as a question to put to Houzz in writing, not a feature you already own.
