One-line verdict: A broad, documented API for reading the whole business — contacts, jobs, work tickets, invoices, payments — that Aspire has to switch on for you first. Openness: 4 / 5 — rated 4 because Aspire documents a full REST API with sandbox, scoped admin-issued credentials, and published rate limits, held back from 5 by the activation gate and a read-heavy verified surface.
Rung 1 — Direct connection. Aspire’s API guide documents a REST API built on OData v4, speaking JSON over GET (retrieve), POST (create), and PUT (update) — its guide states DELETE does not currently apply to its API resources. There are two environments, sandbox and production, with a Swagger tool matching the published reference. Sign-in is a bearer-token pattern with real discipline behind it: an admin creates the credentials inside Aspire (Administration → Application → API), copies the Client ID and Secret, and — this is the part we wish every platform copied — selects which endpoints that key may touch. The key exchanges for a token valid 24 hours, and credentials can be switched off with an Active toggle.
The gate is activation, not price: per the vendor’s Quick Start, Enterprise includes API access, and Corporate and Growth can request it at no additional cost — but if your company doesn’t have it yet, you “reach out to AspireCare to request activation.” Nobody turns it on from a settings page alone.
The verified read surface is broad: Contacts, Opportunities, Jobs, Work Tickets (with crew leader, hours, revenue, and percent-complete fields), Invoices, and Payments. Verified writes are narrower: contact custom fields (read/create/update) and a Partial Payments create endpoint. Rate limits are published and generous: 60 requests a minute in the sandbox, 1,200 a minute in production, stated for all API users combined, with an HTTP 429 when you exceed them.
Bridge apps: no native Aspire app was found on Zapier or Make. The direct API is the road; there is no bridge rung.
Hidden gate: You cannot just turn it on yourself — Aspire has to activate API access for your company, and your own admin has to create the key and pick which parts it can touch. Both steps are free on the plans documented; neither is instant or self-serve.
If you run a larger landscape operation on Aspire, this is one of the better data positions in the industry: nearly everything can be read by your own tools, under keys your admin scopes and can switch off. Just plan the build as read-first — reporting, costing, and AR visibility are proven; pushing work back in is narrow — and put the AspireCare activation request in this week, because nothing starts until it lands.
