AltaPoint AEO Check API Guide for Builders and Agencies

Disclosure first: this one is ours. The AEO Check API is AltaPoint’s own product, listed in our own directory and scored with the same rubric as the other 46 — the reasoning is printed with the score, and the gate is printed like everyone else’s.

One-line verdict: A documented, public REST API that runs our AEO Score v2 audit on any domain and returns the full result as JSON — score, all 24 checks with evidence, and a fix list ranked by points recoverable. Openness: 3 / 5 — rated 3 because the documentation, endpoints, and a machine-readable OpenAPI spec are fully public and the API answers in real time from the same engine as the free checker, held back from 4 by two honest limits: keys are issued by AltaPoint on request (there is no self-serve signup yet), and there are no webhooks — results are requested, not pushed.

What it does

Send a domain. Get back the same audit the free AEO Checker runs in a browser: a 0–100 readiness score across four sections (schema, machine files, content, local proof), every check’s verdict with the evidence found, what the crawl could not determine, and the fixes ranked by points. It is built for agencies and studios that check client sites repeatedly — at intake, after a redesign, or as a standing report. Sites behind bot protection return a 422 and no score: an incomplete crawl scored as fact would be worse than no number.

The connection that works

Rung 1 — Direct connection. Two endpoints under https://altapointdevelopment.com/wp-json/aeocheck/v1: GET|POST /check (send url) and GET /usage. Auth is a per-customer API key in the X-API-Key header (Bearer also accepted). Keys are stored only as SHA-256 hashes, are revocable, and carry a monthly quota (free tier: 100 requests) plus a per-minute burst limit. One engine, one cache: results are cached per domain for 24 hours — the same cache the web checker uses — so the API and the free tool can never disagree about a site. The full contract is public in the developer documentation and the OpenAPI spec.

The gate

Every platform in this directory has one; here is ours, printed the same way: keys are issued by AltaPoint on request — there is no self-serve signup form yet. Request one from the docs page; the free tier is 100 requests a month, no card. Results also sit behind the 24-hour cache by design: a domain re-checked inside a day returns the stored audit (marked cached: true), not a fresh crawl.
