Raken API Guide for Contractors

One-line verdict: Raken says it offers a public API — and publishes no documentation for it: no portal, no endpoints, no auth model. What is documented, thoroughly, is a catalogue of vendor-built syncs. Openness: 2 / 5 — rated 2 because the API claim exists only at blog level while every verifiable connection is a sync Raken built itself.

The connection that works

The claim, labeled for what it is. Raken’s own blog states: “one of the ways we do that is by offering a public API for our platform… our public-facing API is ideal for companies looking for unique customization.” The same post describes two customer uses, at story level: a system to “pull data from all relevant daily reports into a file” for a chosen date range, and a program that “pulls hours from the day before directly from Raken into a spreadsheet.” So the read direction for daily reports and time/hours is vendor-described. Everything a builder would need beyond that — endpoints, fields, authentication, a key process — appears nowhere in Raken’s own sources. (Third-party material referencing a “Public API 3.0” and OAuth exists; it is not Raken documentation and this page does not use it.)

What Raken documents properly is its sync catalogue. Its help centre’s Integrations collection covers vendor-built connections: Procore and Autodesk on the project side (field data syncing to Procore; document transfer), and a long accounting/payroll bench — CMiC, ComputerEase, FOUNDATION, Intuit, JD Edwards, Paychex, QuickBooks Online/Desktop, Sage Intacct/100/300, Viewpoint Vista/Spectrum, and more. Raken’s 2025 recap specifies two of them as direct API integrations it built — ComputerEase syncing time cards and cost codes, CMiC syncing project data. Those are real and useful — as syncs, on Raken’s terms, covering what Raken chose.

No webhooks, rate limits, or plan gate for the API are documented in any vendor source. Bridge apps: no Raken app was found on Zapier or Make (third-party comparison sites contradict each other about Raken and Zapier, which is itself the tell — there’s no listing to point at).

Can automate

Can’t automate

Hidden gate: Raken says there’s a public API, but the instruction book isn’t public — you have to go to Raken to get access and details. The first deliverable of any Raken automation project is a document only Raken can hand you.

Build fit — what this platform supports well

What this means for your shop

If your crews live in Raken for daily reports and time cards, its value to your automation is real but narrow: reports and hours out, and a solid set of vendor syncs into accounting and Procore. Anything beyond that starts with a question only Raken can answer — what does the public API actually expose, and how does a builder authenticate? Ask it in writing before a dollar moves.
