Sod Calculator
Rolls and pallets for the new lawn — and a Long Beach note: price the turf removal before you price the grass.
Pallet coverage varies by farm and roll size — confirm the farm's number before you order by the pallet. No rebate or turf-removal program figures are built in; those programs change and are checked live elsewhere.
How the math works
Order area = lawn area × (1 + waste). Rolls = order area ÷ coverage per roll (a common roll is 2 × 5 ft = 10 sq ft). Pallets = order area ÷ your farm’s pallet coverage — commonly around 450–500 sq ft, and it varies by farm, which is why it is an input. Sod is perishable inventory: the waste factor is for cuts and edges, not for a spare pallet.
A worked example
A 1,000 sq ft lawn at 7% waste orders 1,070 sq ft: 107 rolls at 10 sq ft each, or 3 pallets at 450 sq ft per pallet. Order it the day it goes down — sod waiting on a pallet in Long Beach sun is compost with extra steps.
Questions from the field
How much sod do I need for 1,000 sq ft? 1,070 sq ft with a normal cutting allowance: 107 standard rolls or about 3 pallets.
Should I buy rolls or pallets? Rolls for small patches and tight access; pallets past a few hundred square feet. Price both lines — the calculator shows both if you enter both prices.
What about turf-removal rebates? Programs exist in Southern California and they change terms and funding. Nothing is built into this tool — check the current program live before you quote one.
