If you run a roofing or exterior shop, you’ve heard the name. JobNimbus is one of the most talked-about CRMs in the roofing world, and for good reason — it’s built specifically for the way roofers actually work: lead to inspection to estimate to install. But being purpose-built doesn’t mean it’s right for everyone. Here’s the honest version, based on what the product does today and what contractors actually say about living with it.
What JobNimbus Actually Does
JobNimbus is an all-in-one CRM, production, and billing platform aimed squarely at roofing and exterior contractors (siding, gutters, windows, and similar trades). It’s been around since 2013 and is used by thousands of contractors, with strong ratings on the app stores. The core idea: one system from first lead contact through final payment, organized around visual boards.
Here’s what’s actually in it:
Sales and Pipeline
- Kanban sales boards — drag-and-drop pipelines for leads, inspections, and estimates. This is the centerpiece. If you’re coming off a whiteboard or a spreadsheet, this alone changes how you see your week.
- Proposals and digital signatures — build estimates, send them, get them signed. SumoQuote, a quote-building tool, is now part of the JobNimbus family, aimed at making proposals look polished.
- Lead tracking and scheduling — appointments, call logging, and follow-up tasks live with the job record.
Production
- Production boards and custom workflows — separate boards for jobs in production, with custom stages for different job types (retail vs. insurance, residential vs. commercial).
- Production automations — trigger emails and tasks off events, like sending a customer update when a job gets scheduled.
- Material ordering — create material orders directly from estimates and send them to suppliers. JobNimbus integrates with Beacon PRO+ and SRS, including real-time pricing on the Beacon side.
- Work orders and subcontractors — build work orders from estimates and assign them to crews or subs.
- Aerial measurements — order EagleView measurements from inside the job and have the report attach to the job folder.
Communication, Billing, and Integrations
- Engage texting — a shared SMS inbox with automation options, so the whole office can text customers from one place.
- Invoicing and payments — send invoices, take payments (including text-to-pay), and offer customer financing.
- QuickBooks sync — two-way sync of contacts, jobs, estimates, invoices, and payments, so you don’t double-enter into accounting.
- CompanyCam integration — photo documentation ties into the job record.
That’s a real breadth of coverage. The honest question is whether breadth matters when depth is uneven.
Where It Earns Its Keep
1. The boards match how roofing work actually flows
This is the number-one thing owners say they like. Roofing has a natural pipeline: lead, inspection, estimate, approved, scheduled, installed, paid. The Kanban boards reflect that directly. Owners who moved off spreadsheets consistently say this gave them the first real picture of their pipeline they’d ever had — where jobs stall, who’s following up, what’s actually in the month.
2. Supplier ordering from the estimate is a genuine time-saver
Building a material order with one click from an estimate — and pushing it straight to Beacon or SRS — removes one of the most error-prone handoffs in a roofing office. Real-time Beacon pricing inside the estimate means your material costs aren’t stale the day you order. For shops doing volume, this feature alone justifies a lot.
3. Insurance and retail workflows can live in the same system
Custom job workflows mean your retail jobs and insurance jobs can follow different stage paths. That sounds small, but most generic CRMs force every job through one funnel, and insurance work doesn’t work that way.
4. Onboarding is fast for what it is
Compared to heavier platforms, JobNimbus is genuinely easy to get running. Offices moving off paper or spreadsheets tend to get crews and office staff working in it quickly. The mobile app exists for both major platforms, which matters when your foremen live on their phones.
Where It Falls Short
1. Pricing is quote-only — and the cost stacks in layers
JobNimbus doesn’t publish pricing on its site. Based on third-party reports, the real cost comes in layers: a base plan fee, per-seat charges, and separate add-ons like the Engage texting package — and those third-party estimates disagree with each other on the exact numbers. Check current pricing directly, and before you sign, get in writing: the base fee, the per-seat cost, every add-on you’ll need, and what renewal looks like. If a vendor won’t put the stack in writing, that’s your answer.
2. Stability and the mobile app are the recurring complaints
When contractors complain about JobNimbus, the two themes that come up again and again are recurring glitches and a field mobile app that doesn’t match the desktop experience. For a product whose pitch is “run your whole job from anywhere,” unreliable field functionality is a real problem. Ask for a field trial with your actual foremen before committing — not the sales demo, the app, on a real roof, with real data.
3. The interface feels cluttered to some
Because it covers sales, production, billing, and comms, the desktop can feel busy. Offices that only need half of it end up navigating around the other half. It’s a breadth-vs-simplicity tradeoff, and it’s worth being honest about which side you’re on.
4. Automation ceilings on lower tiers
The lower plan tiers cap automations and integrations, which means growing shops eventually hit a ceiling and face an upgrade decision. Know the caps before you buy, and project where your automation needs will be in two years, not just today.
Who Should Skip It
JobNimbus is a roofing and exterior CRM. If that’s not your trade, the fit drops fast:
- General contractors and remodelers who need real project management — schedules, budgets, selections, client portals — will find it thin. That’s Buildertrend or Procore territory, not this.
- Commercial GCs with real job-costing needs should look at accounting-first platforms with construction modules instead.
- Shops that want simple, published, per-user pricing will hate the quote-only model and the layered cost structure. If pricing transparency is a top-three criterion, this is the wrong vendor to start with.
- One-person operations doing light volume may find the whole thing overkill. A simple pipeline tool and a phone system get you surprisingly far at that size.
How to Trial It Without Getting Burned
If it sounds like a fit, run it like an audition, not a purchase:
- Give it to a foreman for a week. Have them run real jobs through the mobile app — photos, notes, status updates. If they won’t use it voluntarily by day three, they won’t use it on day ninety.
- Test the Beacon/SRS ordering loop end to end. Estimate to order to delivery confirmation. This is where the ROI lives; make sure it works with your branch, not just in theory.
- Push the automation caps. Build the follow-up sequences and production triggers you’d actually run, and see whether your tier supports them.
- Get the full price in writing. Base, seats, texting, onboarding, renewal. Then divide the real annual number by twelve — that’s the price you’re comparing, not the headline.
- Plan the QuickBooks sync test early. Run a month in parallel and reconcile before you trust it.
The Verdict
JobNimbus is a strong, genuinely roofing-native CRM with real strengths: pipeline boards that match the trade, one-click supplier ordering, and workflows that handle both retail and insurance jobs. It’s also quote-only priced with a layered cost structure, and the field app and stability are the weak spots you’ll hear about from real users.
The pick: it’s worth a serious look for residential roofing and exterior shops doing real volume who want pipeline visibility and supplier ordering in one place. Skip it if you’re a GC who needs project management, if transparent pricing is non-negotiable, or if your foremen live on a phone app that has to just work.

Choosing software is the easy part — making it stick is the work. If your CRM is half-adopted, your follow-up is manual, and jobs stall in the cracks between the office and the field, it doesn’t matter which logo is on the login screen.
